Audi Gives The SQ5 A Much Needed Refresh

Just last month, the 2021 Audi Q5 was revealed, showing off sharp new styling and improved interior technology. The facelifted Q5 will soon be joined by a Sportback model with a coupe-like roofline and although it was mentioned without providing any photos, a 2021 Audi SQ5 model will be coming as well, which you can now see here thanks to our spy photographer.

The 2021 Q5 will come powered by a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder that now features a mild-hybrid assist for a total of 261Hp/195kW and 273 lb-ft/371Nm of torque. The SQ5 will utilize a carryover 3.0-liter turbocharged V6 producing 349Hp or 260kW and 369 lb-ft which is 500N.m of torque. This will allow the SQ5 to hit 60mph/100kmh in 4.7 seconds. There will also be a 254Kw/700 Nm version available exclusively for Europe and South Africa.

All of the same updates that were given to the facelifted Q5 appear here on the sportier SQ5. The headlights and grille design are much more reminiscent of the S4 sedan and those headlights are now LED as standard. Audi will also offer Matrix LED headlights, though they will likely be dumbed down for the US market due to safety regulations. It is tough to see if these photos show the SQ5’s standard 20-inch five-V-spoke-star design wheels or the optional 21-inch wheels.

The SQ5 can clearly be distinguished from the standard Q5 via its signature aluminum trim around the grille, fog light housings, and side mirrors. Silver trim has become the telltale indicator for Audi S models for years now and the SQ5 continues this trend. There will also be an available Black Optic Package, which blacks out the wheels, roof rails, mirror housings, and other accents.

Audi says the 2021 Q5 will go on sale (in the US) in the fourth quarter of 2020. It is unclear if the SQ5 will go on sale at the same time but pricing will likely start around $52,9k/R820k.
