2019 was a year when Lexus debuted the LY 650 in massive style, phenomenal V8 power, and the ultimate in luxury. Toyota is perhaps the only carmaker in the world that has one foot on each boat, or rather, one foot in a boat and one in a car. The Japanese automaker boasts a marine division, called Ponam Boats and they have a whole range of beautiful yachts and water cruisers to please even the iffiest of boat buyers.
It’s common knowledge that whatever Toyota can do, Lexus has to do better. This is a Lexus that doesn’t come with Lexus- or even Toyota-power. Power for it comes from a pair of marine-spec Volvo Penta IPS 12.8-liter engines that can produce up to 1,350hp/1007kW for some awesome performance. Lower-powered versions are also available, though the highest trim can make this yacht go 36mph/60kmh on water.
Lexus doesn’t just aim to be a luxury car brand rather a luxury lifestyle brand, so boats seemed the next logical step. The Lexus LY 650 is based on the new philosophy of Lexus, ‘Crafted’ and it entails providing every kind of luxury a customer can think of, even before it has been thought of. The 650 stands for size since this is a gorgeous 65-foot yacht.
The LY 650 can sleep six lucky people but it can accommodate 15, and it also boasts a Mark Levinson surround-sound audio system. Gorgeous bespoke furnishings and real wood trim as well as air conditioning and make it feature-loaded.
The salon has dual captain’s seats as well as neatly set sofas, and there’s a fully equipped galley in the aft. The three berths lie below the salon and each has 6 feet and 6 inches of headroom and comes with a private bathroom with a shower.
A lot of the tech, including the lights and airconditioning can be remotely controlled via a smartphone app, so the owner can have his boat ready and waiting while he or she is en route, stuck in traffic.
This isn’t an ordinary boat at all. And you just have to look at the spacious berth to see why considering it comes replete with all the gadgetry and convenience of the modern world.
Thus, the Lexus LY 650 is priced at as a whopping $3.7/R53.72 million, a base price that can climb to $4.85/R70 million with bespoke trims and choices. If you can afford this, what’s a million more, right?
Simply said, this isn’t a boat for just about anyone. This one is marketed to the crème de la crème of society. As is anything, Lexus…
